Public Health Significance and Features

Public healthcare is present all across the globe, whether in the form of health services, or health insurance. An important feature in this regard is that public health services or health insurance are both managed by the government. However, there are some nations in which the health care services are mainly managed and taken care of by the private organizations and only a partial contribution is made by the government.

In the United States, there are two main public healthcare programs that work in this direction, i.e. Medicare and Medicaid. Medicare is a federal program paying up for healthcare to the elderly people, whereas Medicaid is a federal-state arrangement that makes payment for the healthcare of the poor as well as disabled.

Public healthcare is soon becoming a major area of concern, in the United States. It is estimated that around two out of every hundred people in the United lack any kind of health insurance. It is suggested that these people would have problems in finding healthcare for themselves. It is believed that the infant mortality rate as well as the average life expectancy rates is the worse in the United States, that that of the industrial nations which are characterized by universal healthcare.

As it is, in the United States, there are no healthcare services, which are totally paid up, sponsored or provided for by the government. While the Medicare and the Medicaid services pay for healthcare facilities, for the people who are elderly, poor or disabled, those who do not belong to this category, find it hard to manage the healthcare expenses. As it is, Medicaid services differ from state to state. The Local health department also provides a number of services, which includes vaccination, spread of information in regard to dangerous diseases and address the needs arising out of difficult conditions, such as epidemics.

One of the major reasons, as to why public healthcare are so important, is the fact that everybody can get across to some form of health services. In case the healthcare has been funded with the help of taxes, then in that case, it gets quite different from the way private insurance gets to be. It is believed that a lesser amount has to be paid by Industrial countries with public healthcare system, that that what is paid by the United States.

It is due tom these reasons, that public healthcare is so important for us.
